Some paddles make a good first impression on the court. The QRANC makes one before you even take it out of the box as it had one of the best unboxing experience I’ve ever had.

It arrives in a premium package that makes opening it feel like part of the experience, not just the step between ordering a paddle and playing with it. The design looks great, the face has a nice grit, and the whole package feels like QRANC put real thought into how this paddle should look and feel.

But the most interesting thing about the QRANC is what happens once you start looking at the options. You can get it in 14mm, 16mm, or 18mm. That 18mm version is especially unique because one of my favorite control paddles was a 20mm paddle. Most players are used to choosing between thinner paddles and the more familiar 16mm option, so seeing an 18mm version immediately made me curious.

I had a lot of fun playing with this paddle. It played nicely for me, and it has the kind of design and feel that make you want to take it out for another game. Here’s what stood out to me.

First Impressions

The QRANC arrives in a super premium box, and the unboxing experience feels like opening something special.

That might sound like a small thing, but first impressions are part of the fun. QRANC clearly put effort into the presentation, and the paddle looks just as good once you take it out.

The design is awesome. It has a distinctive look without feeling like the paddle is trying too hard to get your attention. The face also has a nice grit to it. Before I’d even hit a ball, I was already looking forward to testing it.

The QRANC came with a paddle eraser that was 100% branded, which I loved.

A polished presentation doesn’t guarantee a paddle will play well, of course. Still, it’s enjoyable when a company puts care into the whole product, from the box to the paddle itself. The QRANC feels like it was developed with some thought behind it, not thrown together just to add another paddle to the market.

Playability

The QRANC was simply fun to play with. I got on court, started hitting, and had a good time. It played nicely for me, and the paddle’s design and gritty surface made it an enjoyable one to pick up.

The surface has a nice grit, which gives the paddle a textured feel. How much that texture affects your game will depend on your technique and what you’re used to.

In terms of power, I thought the QRANC had fantastic power if you are looking for a top spin drive. You can really shape the ball effectively both from the grit, but also from the material inside the paddle. This is where this paddle shines.

I also felt that I had good control on drops, resets and dinks across the board. I would call this a well rounded all around paddle.

If you’re shopping for a paddle, it’s always helpful to test it yourself when you can. A paddle can look great in a photo, but the real question is whether you enjoy swinging it and making shots with it. The QRANC is awesome.

The 18mm Option Is the Standout

The biggest conversation starter is the QRANC’s choice of thicknesses: 14mm, 16mm, and 18mm.

The 14mm and 16mm options give players two familiar places to start. The 18mm is the one that made me stop and take a second look. It’s a unique option, and it’s fun to see a company offering players a choice that goes beyond the usual lineup.

A thicker core may appeal to players who are curious about a different feel, but thickness alone doesn’t tell you exactly how a paddle will perform. Two paddles with the same core thickness can feel very different because of their materials, shape, weight, and construction. So I wouldn’t assume that 18mm automatically means a specific playing style. I’d treat it as another option to explore and, if possible, try it in person before deciding.

What I do like is that QRANC gives players a choice. If you already know you prefer a 14mm or 16mm paddle, those versions are available. If the 18mm option intrigues you, you can try something less common.

Cost Considerations

The QRANC has a premium feel, a striking design, and a useful range of thickness options. The paddle is currently set at $79.95, which I would argue is a great value considering it’s playability and the technology in this paddle.

If you’re especially interested in trying an 18mm paddle, that unique option may be a big part of the appeal. If you’re choosing the 14mm or 16mm version, compare it with other paddles in the same price range and think about what you value most. Presentation and design can make a paddle more enjoyable to own, but how it feels on court should be the deciding factor.

If you can demo the QRANC before buying, that’s a great way to figure out which thickness suits you. If you can’t, pay close attention to the model’s weight, dimensions, handle length, and return policy.

Should You Buy the QRANC?

The QRANC is worth checking out if you’re looking for a fun paddle with a great design, a nice gritty surface, and an unusual 18mm option. I had a good time playing with it, and I appreciate that QRANC offers 14mm and 16mm versions as well.

The premium box and unboxing experience are a fun bonus, and the paddle feels like a product with real thought and R&D behind it. The 18mm option is the feature that makes it stand out most to me, especially if you’re curious about trying a thickness you don’t see every day.

Would I tell every player to buy it without trying it? No paddle is right for everyone. But if the design catches your eye, the price fits your budget, and one of the three thickness options sounds appealing, the QRANC is absolutely worth a look. It’s a fun paddle to play with, and that’s a pretty good place to start.
