I prefer control (and spin) of the 60+ pickleball paddles I own, so I thought it would be helpful to provide you the best pickleball paddles for control. In addition, if you’ve read my reviews, you will know that I have an entire section covering control.
So, I will provide great pickleball paddles for control, and then what to look for if you are looking for a “control” paddle that is not on this list.
1.Best Overall Control
I have been playing almost exclusively with the new Honolulu J2FC+ pickleball paddle, and I have to say that it is the best control pickleball paddle in 2025. I played in multiple conditions including Kauai’s humidity and San Jose’s cold mornings.
The paddle is incredible. Firstly, I first noticed how the paddle gave me ample control on my serves, giving me around a 95% serve success rate. In addition, I play both singles and doubles, and I noticed that my drops were really accurate along with my dinks and drives. My backhand was effortless as well and I would argue that this paddle has allowed me to play the back line better than the second place paddle.
In addition, I love how this paddle seems to “breathe” with the ball. The full multi-density foam core paired with the carbon face gives it a soft, connected feel that makes touch shots and resets feel effortless and forgiving.

In addition, I competed the J2NF vs J2FC+, and I would argue that J2NF has more power, and J2FC+ provides better control. I also competed the J2K+ against the paddles, and I would say that the J2FC+ still won.
Finally, the team has been really kind with providing a discount code pickleballer20 that puts this paddle well below $200.
2. Second Place
The Hyperion Ben Johns CFS 16mm is currently the best control paddle that I have played with after I purchased the paddle knowing that Ben Johns played with this paddle. I love this paddle so much that I wrote a comprehensive review covering just how well this paddle plays.

Firstly, the paddle provides a soft feel on drops, drinks and drives. I also see that I have ample control on powerful serves. When I started using the new Joola Pro IV Ben Johns, I realized that I had much more power, but I lost the control aspect of the Hyperion Ben Johns CFS 16mm.
After seeing the lack of control with the new Joola Pro IV at a recent tournament, I decided to switch back to this paddle, and the results were shocking.
I played a recent opponent who is in the 4.5 range, and he beat me 4-1 games, but then I switched back to this paddle, and he was so impressed that I beat him 2-1 games that he noted that this paddle definitely made a huge difference in terms of control.
I have tested so many paddles, and I often come back to this paddle because it provides the best control. In addition, this paddle is a great investment and often goes on sale under $175 on Amazon.
Let’s next look at the best budget control paddle.
3. Best Budget
I have been writing a lot about the Doctor Pickleball surgical control paddle recently. Given control is in the name, I had high expectations that this paddle would provide amazing control at a good value.
The paddle did not disappoint.
I cover much more in my thorough review, but I am still undefeated with this paddle as I feel that the 20mm thickness gives me ample ability to move the ball around the court.

In addition, this paddle has a T700 carbon fiber surface, and enough grit to control the ball and place it where you want the ball to go.
As I have been practicing drops and dink lately, I have felt that this paddle can provide the exact control that I need to win points that I previous did not win.
4. Runner-Up
The Warping Point Grasp Control is the first paddle I have ever owned that is 20mm and is edgeless. Most of my paddles are between 14mm and 16mm in paddle thickness, so it was exciting to try a paddle so thick. A paddle this thick promises control, and it met that promise.
Check out the thickness of this paddle. I had no idea how this paddle would play.

Let me tell you that this paddle’s play is unbelievable. I loved this paddle so much that I wrote a full review covering my experience.
My main paddle has recently been the Joola Ben Johns Hyperion 16mm paddle, but this Warping Point is making the case to be my #1 paddle.
Currently, I am 5-0 playing with this paddle, playing against an opponent that is generally around equivalent with me in terms of skill level.
In the most recent 3 games, I only errored on one serve, and I was able to control the return deep to my opponent’s backhand almost 100% of the time.
It is an insanely good paddle if you are looking for a control paddle. In addition, I love the elongated handle that allows for two-handed backhands.
Finally, the Warping Point team gave a generous 25% discount code that put this paddle well below $100, which is incredible given the other control paddles I own are generally in the $150-$200 range.
25% Discount Code: BePickleballer
Unfortunately, this paddle is no longer available on Amazon, but that’s okay because Warping Point has an insane 180 day return policy and all my paddles I’ve received have been lightening fast.
Also, for under $100, look at the incredible accessories. I like the paddle cover so much that I use it for my Joola Ben Johns Perseus Pro IV.

Let’s go through the #2 paddle.
5. Best Wide Body Control Paddle
The Bread and Butter pickleball paddle is the best pickleball paddle for control. There are so many features including this perfect face, and the wide paddle size.
You can get a hint of how good this paddle is in control, just when you open the box seeing “sweet control” and that this paddle “hits the sweet spot”. It seriously does.

From my Bread and Butter Fat Boy review article, here’s what I put about it’s control capabilities:
What I noticed right off the bay when opening the box was, “Wide paddle. Sweet control”. So, I had an expectation that this paddle would provide great control, and it lived up to its expectations.
This paddle offers outstanding control. I felt like I could direct the ball precisely where I wanted, and I made fewer unforced errors as a result. Since I mostly play singles, control is crucial for me, and the Fat Boy provided that and more.

6. Runner-Up Wide Body Control
This pickleball paddle has quickly become one of the top paddles that I play with on a weekly basis. It has amazing control while providing power and spin.
From my Volair Mach 2 Forza review article, check out how this paddle performs for control.
I felt that this paddle had maximize control. I felt that I had control where the ball was going, and I also felt that I made less unforced errors. I primarily play singles, so control is a huge factor for me. I found that the Volair Mach 2 Forza had control in spades.

7. Honorable Mention Control Under $100
I love the Vatic Pro brand for it’s control ability (and spin and power) so much that I purchased both the Vatic Pro Prism Flash.
From my review article, here’s what I say about Vatic Pro Prism’s flash’s control.
I tend to opt for control over speed and power. The Vatic Pro Prism 16mm is the clear winner as the thicker core paddles generally allow the ball to get absorbed into the core on contact.
The sweet spot on the Vatic Pro Prism Flash is the same on the 14mm vs 16mm, you may get the same precise control. This is slightly different than other 14mm and 16mm paddles as 14mm paddles generally have smaller sweet spots that require more finesse for control.

8. Honorable Mention
This Warping Point Control paddle provides amazing control, but I also love that it’s the best paddle under $75.
Here’s what I added about control in my Warping Point Ascent review paddle.
The Warping Point paddle provides a lot of control on your returns. The carbon fiber face material is the best pickleball paddle material in my opinion, and I liked the weaved texture design.I generally play with a paddle that has a rim around the outside, but I didn’t miss it when playing with this paddle.

What To Look For In A Control Pickleball Paddle
If you are looking at other paddles for control than the ones above, consider these qualities that help make the best control paddles.
1. Paddle Surface Material
Carbon fiber is the best pickleball paddle material in my opinion as it has an excellent touch and a softer feel. It can provide controlled dinks, drop shots and resets.
If you do not want to go with a carbon fiber paddle, you may look at a fiberglass paddle as it may have a slightly softer touch to a graphite paddle. If interested, consider reading the article covering carbon fiber vs graphite vs fiberglass paddles.
2. Textured Surface
Similar to the best pickleball paddles for spin, you may look for a textured surface as that can help your paddle connect with the ball better. You may also look for anti-vibration feature technology that minimizes vibratsions to enhance control.
Here’s the a close up picture of textured surface of the Bread and Butter Shogun Carbon Fiber paddle.

3. Paddle Shape
When considering a paddle shape, consider a wide body shape. These paddles often provide the most forgiveness on off-center hits, which is great when trying to get consistent placement.
The wide paddle shape also provides a larger sweet spot that provides more consistency for control play. You may have less reach than an elongated paddle, but that’s okay.
4. Core Material
For control, you may be looking for a thicker core in the 14mm vs 16mm pickleball paddle core thickness. These thicker cores dampen vibrations and provide a more stable hitting surface, improving the control for precise placement.
In addition, you may look for a paddle with polymer core, which some considered gold standard for control. It has a soft feel and reduced vibration that provides greater accuracy on touch shots.
5. Weight
For a control paddle, you may want to look for a lightweight paddle (<7.5 oz) or a middle weight paddle (7.5 – 8.5 oz). A lightweight paddle are easier to maneuver for a quick net exchanges and controlled dinking. That said, you may see less power.
Here’s a picture of the Bread and Butter’s Fat Boy’s weight:

For a middle weight paddle, you will see a great balance between maneuverability and control, which is ideal for accurate shot placement.
6. Grip Size
For a control paddle, consider looking for a paddle with a smaller grip size in the 4-4.25 inches. A smaller grip allows you for better wrist action, making it easy to finesse shots with greater control. You may also look for a cushioned grip to ensure comfort while playing longer match.
Finally, a low-profile edgeguard can reduce interference on shots as you maintain control.
Conclusion
If you can control where the ball lands, you can move up the ranks quickly. It’s the inconsistency of your game play that really hurts your game play.
So, understand the best pickleball paddles for control to help improve your consistency and your game.
