I prefer control (and spin) of the 40-50 pickleball paddles I own, so I thought it would be helpful to provide you the best pickleball paddles for control. In addition, if you’ve read my reviews, you will know that I have an entire section covering control.
So, I will provide great pickleball paddles for control, and then what to look for if you are looking for a “control” paddle that is not on this list.
Also, some of these are premium paddles, so I was able to secure discount codes to help reduce the price.
1. Bread and Butter Fat Boy Pickleball Paddle
The Bread and Butter pickleball paddle is the best pickleball paddle for control. There are so many features including this perfect face, and the wide paddle size.
You can get a hint of how good this paddle is in control, just when you open the box seeing “sweet control” and that this paddle “hits the sweet spot”. It seriously does.
From my Bread and Butter Fat Boy review article, here’s what I put about it’s control capabilities:
What I noticed right off the bay when opening the box was, “Wide paddle. Sweet control”. So, I had an expectation that this paddle would provide great control, and it lived up to its expectations.
This paddle offers outstanding control. I felt like I could direct the ball precisely where I wanted, and I made fewer unforced errors as a result. Since I mostly play singles, control is crucial for me, and the Fat Boy provided that and more.

3. Hyperion Ben Johns CFS 16mm Pickleball Paddle
The Hyperion Ben Johns CFS 16mm is one of my favorite paddles that I play with on a weekly basis. It’s one of the first premium paddles that I purchased, and it has an awesome balance of control, spin and power.
In addition, Ben Johns used to play with this paddle, until he switched to a newer Joola model. I have tried out the newer Joola model that Ben Johns plays with, and I honestly like this paddle over the newer model.
I have tested so many paddles, and I often come back to this paddle because of it’s solid control. In addition, this paddle often goes on sale under $175 on Amazon.
4. Vatic Pro Prism Flash 16mm Pickleball Racquet
I love the Vatic Pro brand for it’s control ability (and spin and power) so much that I purchased both the Vatic Pro Prism Flash.
From my review article, here’s what I say about Vatic Pro Prism’s flash’s control.
I tend to opt for control over speed and power. The Vatic Pro Prism 16mm is the clear winner as the thicker core paddles generally allow the ball to get absorbed into the core on contact.
The sweet spot on the Vatic Pro Prism Flash is the same on the 14mm vs 16mm, you may get the same precise control. This is slightly different than other 14mm and 16mm paddles as 14mm paddles generally have smaller sweet spots that require more finesse for control.

5. Warping Point Ascent Control Paddle
This Warping Point Control paddle provides amazing control, but I also love that it’s the best paddle under $75.
Here’s what I added about control in my Warping Point Ascent review paddle.
The Warping Point paddle provides a lot of control on your returns. The carbon fiber face material is the best pickleball paddle material in my opinion, and I liked the weaved texture design.I generally play with a paddle that has a rim around the outside, but I didn’t miss it when playing with this paddle.

What To Look For In A Control Pickleball Paddle
If you are looking at other paddles for control than the ones above, consider these qualities that help make the best control paddles.
1. Paddle Surface Material
Carbon fiber is the best pickleball paddle material in my opinion as it has an excellent touch and a softer feel. It can provide controlled dinks, drop shots and resets.
If you do not want to go with a carbon fiber paddle, you may look at a fiberglass paddle as it may have a slightly softer touch to a graphite paddle. If interested, consider reading the article covering carbon fiber vs graphite vs fiberglass paddles.
2. Textured Surface
Similar to the best pickleball paddles for spin, you may look for a textured surface as that can help your paddle connect with the ball better. You may also look for anti-vibration feature technology that minimizes vibratsions to enhance control.
Here’s the a close up picture of textured surface of the Bread and Butter Shogun Carbon Fiber paddle.
3. Paddle Shape
When considering a paddle shape, consider a wide body shape. These paddles often provide the most forgiveness on off-center hits, which is great when trying to get consistent placement.
The wide paddle shape also provides a larger sweet spot that provides more consistency for control play. You may have less reach than an elongated paddle, but that’s okay.
4. Core Material
For control, you may be looking for a thicker core in the 14mm vs 16mm pickleball paddle core thickness. These thicker cores dampen vibrations and provide a more stable hitting surface, improving the control for precise placement.
In addition, you may look for a paddle with polymer core, which some considered gold standard for control. It has a soft feel and reduced vibration that provides greater accuracy on touch shots.
5. Weight
For a control paddle, you may want to look for a lightweight paddle (<7.5 oz) or a middle weight paddle (7.5 – 8.5 oz). A lightweight paddle are easier to maneuver for a quick net exchanges and controlled dinking. That said, you may see less power.
Here’s a picture of the Bread and Butter’s Fat Boy’s weight:
For a middle weight paddle, you will see a great balance between maneuverability and control, which is ideal for accurate shot placement.
6. Grip Size
For a control paddle, consider looking for a paddle with a smaller grip size in the 4-4.25 inches. A smaller grip allows you for better wrist action, making it easy to finesse shots with greater control. You may also look for a cushioned grip to ensure comfort while playing longer match.
Finally, a low-profile edgeguard can reduce interference on shots as you maintain control.
Conclusion
If you can control where the ball lands, you can move up the ranks quickly. It’s the inconsistency of your game play that really hurts your game play.
So, understand the best pickleball paddles for control to help improve your consistency and your game.
