I have been craving a “control” focused paddle after having such a great experience with the Warping Point Ascent Control paddle and the Warping Point Grasp Balance paddle.
This paddle is an insanely good paddle, and is one of the best pickleball paddles for control. I can verify that in my own play as I am 5-0 playing with this paddle, and have felt that I have never been able to control the ball as well.
I want to tell you how well I was able to control my serves and returns and how you can save 25% with a discount code bepickleballer, but first, let me share the unboxing experience.
Unboxing Experience
My first fun unboxing experience was Warping Point’s Ascent paddle, so I am always excited to see how Warping Point designed it’s next box.
Unboxing Warping Point’s Grasp Control paddle was very colorful and fun.
Let’s start with the beautiful box.
Firstly, the box feels very high quality. It reminds me of the Macbook laptop box. To be honest. I still have the box as it just feels too nice to throw away.
The first thing you see when you open the box is a nice, unique cover. The cover is heavier than most covers, and a friend recently complimented me on the paddle cover and chose to try this paddle, just on the cover.
Next, when you see the paddle, you realize that the paddle is quite stunning.
I love a lot about the look and feel of this paddle, including a thinner paddle that works well for my medium-large hands.
The elongated handle is fantastic to provide two handed controlled backhands.
In addition, the paddle is a 20mm paddle, but the edgeless design, so this is a very thick paddle when comparing to my 14mm vs 16mm pickleball paddles.
Let’s talk about the playability of this paddle because that’s my favorite part of the paddle.
Playability
The control on this paddle is out of control, so let’s start with that feature first.
Control
Firstly, the 20mm paddle thickness provides very steady control. The thicker core provides shock absorption and a larger sweet spot. In my last 3 games, I only missed one serve. I was also able to play many serves deep to the back baseline, providing a few points on the serve.
In addition, this paddle has a 4.125 inch grip that more easily allows you to flex your hand back and forth which gave me better control.
Another aspect I loved with this paddle is that I could place my returns deep to my opponent’s backhand with utter control. It was really exiting.
I also loved the length of the paddle, which allowed me to stretch my 6 foot 3 frame and reach 2 balls that I may not have been able to control with a shorter paddle.
Power
Yes, it’s true that the thicker core may provide a less powerful game, but after playing with this multiple sessions, I would gladly give up the power for the increased control.
That said, I did not feel that I lose that much power, and expected that my shots would be less powerful. For example, iI still had powerful serves to the back of my opponent’s baseline.
So, yes, this pickleball paddle may have slightly less control, but the better control made the paddle well worth it.
Spin
The Warping Point Control paddle also had fantastic spin. I love that this paddle has raw T700 carbon fiber surface with its teflon coating that provides roughness. I was able to put a side spin on serves and a top spin on returns.
Even though this is a “control” paddle, I could see that this paddle also provided enough spin to put the ball out of reach of my opponent.
The spin this paddle provides can throw off your opponents and put shots out of reach, given the paddle specifications.
Price Considerations
The Warping Point Control Grasp paddle currently retails under $135, but with the 25% discount code: bepickleballer, you can get this paddle right now under $110.
Personally, I strongly believe this is a top “control” paddle, so seeing such a huge discount makes me excited about this paddle even more.
Let’s go through the specifications.
