A perfect paddle for those looking to make a big impression from the baseline as an aggressive baseliner, which is what I looked for in the SLK Evo Power Max.

The paddle has many options, so you can decide what colorways suit you the best whether it is bright and bold, or sleek and stealthy.

The topspin can help players transition quickly from the back of the court to the kitchen, which gives them an early advantage on net play. It is a great paddle for intermediate players who are looking to get more power on their shots. As a previous tennis player, this was also a great paddle because I am used to playing the game of an aggressive baseliner who gets a lot of topspin and power on my shots.

I want to share my first impressions, the playability, the cost implications, alternatives, paddle specifications. You’ll see just why this paddle gets such a unique rating on Amazon.

First Impressions

My first impression of the paddle was immediate appreciation for the design and simplistic style. When it comes to this paddle, what you see is what you get.

I first saw the paddle after searching for a balance between power and control, and found that the dimensions on this paddle would suit my play style well. I liked the sleek appearance of the paddle when I found it online, and was excited to see if it would look similar in person.

The paddle has a 13mm thickness, which I tend to see favored in more power paddles.

The paddle was the same in person as it was online, if not better. The design is aesthetically pleasing for players who do not care to bother with the extra flair of appearance and instead let their play do the talking.

Playability

The paddle is somewhat balanced, but definitely favors power over spin and control. It is a reliable paddle at all parts of the court, and is a solid paddle for those who are looking to upgrade their offensive shots.

Control

The control of the paddle may not be its staple feature, however, it allows the paddle to be quite reliable and aids players in winning tough points. It is a reliable paddle for players who are looking to have a large “sweet spot” on their paddle, and it causes players to have less room for unforced errors.

It is not the best paddle for strong net players, but it can help players who are working to develop a better net game and strong touch. Overall, the control of the paddle is solid and can help many intermediate players advance their game.

Spin

The spin of the paddle is an aspect that is likely not going to convince you to purchase this paddle. If you are looking to get more spin, this is not the best paddle to buy.

However, with the right technique and on certain shots, players can still produce a bit of spin. Drives and slices can get a nice bit of spin from this paddle, but there is not a great amount of spin on certain shots at the net, like dinks.

Topspin drives highlight the spin playability for this paddle.

Power

The power is the most notable feature of the paddle for a reason.

As a tennis player, I find that I typically am able to swing fast through the shot, and this paddle highlighted that part of my game. The power from this paddle is seen at the baseline and on approach shots. When I play with this paddle, I feel myself getting big returns that help to easily win points.

The power of the paddle assists players to drive the ball deep, and I was able to get winners off of many of the shots. If you are looking to get a bit of pop on shots, then this is a serious contender for a paddle that will enhance your game.

Cost Implications

The cost of the paddle is typically $100, but it is currently on sale on Amazon for $89.99. This is considered to be a great value for the price of the paddle, because of the amount of playability you are able to get out of it.

The power of the paddle is also a great feature for the price point. Comparable paddles typically are in the range of $120-$170.

Alternatives

If you want a slightly lesser expensive option, check out the new SLK Helix paddle. There’s a carbon fiber option, and the paddle currently has a 4.6 rating on Amazon.

A Selkirk Vanguard 2.0 is an option for players who are looking to upgrade their spin to match their power. This paddle is also a good option for players who prefer Selkirk paddles.
