I wrote this Bread and Butter Shogun article because I love writing about pickleball paddles, but there may be links to support this website, so I don’t have to put annoying ads everywhere.
After loving the Bread and Butter Fat Boy and the Filth, I needed to get my hands on the Shogun, and give it a proper spin.
And “spin” (and control and power) is exactly what this paddle provided.
Let’s dive right into the unboxing experience, the playability, the generous discount code, the specs, and how this paddle sized up to my other favorite Bread & Butter paddles.
Unboxing Experience
Firstly, there is NO other pickleball brand that does an unboxing experience like Bread & Butter. The team there seriously does an incredible job.
For example, did you know that you used to get hot sauce when you unboxed the Shogun? Yes, it looks like that no longer is a thing, but I read somewhere that the hot sauce was really good!
What other paddle brand does something that cool?
So, I had to do an unboxing video for the Shogun because Bread and Butter is just too cool for school.
Here’s some pictures if you prefer not to watch the video.
Check out this close up shot of this amazing paddle face material.
I mean, what other brands come with such a fantastic branded box with unbelievable stickers? My daughters all wanted the stickers, let me tell you.
Finally, the beer koozie (which smelled like leather) is incredible, and I love that it says “tennis sucks”.
Playability
Bread & Butter shines because it is one of the most fun paddle brands out there, but it also makes incredibly built paddles.
For example, did you know the Shogun features a never-before-seen T-700 Carbon Fiber x Electroplated Polyester weave?
I had never seen anything like this before, so let’s chat about control, power and spin.
Control
I love the feel of this paddle’s lightweight design and carbon fiber face. It gives me the control I need for my drop shots and dinks. Since I mostly play singles, I’m all about drop shots to set up my dink game.
Plus, this paddle lets me hit those solid kill shots when I need to finish a rally.
Spin
The carbon fiber electroplated polyester face makes spin easy. I like to add spin to my serve, and the Shogun paddle gives me just the right touch.
Even on my backhand, where I like a bit of spin, the Shogun performs well. The elongated handle also allows great two handed backhands, which I continue to practice.
Power
I have both 14mm and 16mm paddles, and while I usually find 14mm paddles quicker, the Shogun impressed me with its power even at 16mm.
Overall, the Shogun paddle nailed an incredible balance of power, spin and control
Can Bread & Butter get any better?
Yes, the team provided me a 15% discount code for my readers!
Shogun 15% Coupon Code!!
That’s right. Many brands may provide a 10% discount code, but the Bread & Butter team is so generous that they provide a 15% discount code (bepickleballer).
I tested the code, and the code worked perfectly.

Now, you may be comparing multiple Bread & Butter paddles, so let’s see how this paddle compares.
How Does the Shogun Compare to Filth and Fat Boy?
In my opinion, the Shogun was my favorite paddle of the bunch although I loved every single one of the paddles.
I felt that it may not have provided as much control as the Fat Boy, but I felt that it made up for that in both spin and power. I personally loved the new Carbon fiber weave, and wouldn’t be surprised if Bread & Butter is the trend setter for that material.
Conclusion
I am continually impressed with the Bread & Butter team. I have spent countless time with the Fat Boy, Filth, and Shogun paddles, and I just can’t get enough of them.
Also, I heard they are coming out with another new paddles soon, and that makes me incredibly excited.
